Vice Presidents: The Sweet Spot

VIPs WITHOUT THE “IMPORTANT”

Too senior to do any manual labor, and too junior to have responsibility for losing a client, VP is a great place to be. The analysts do all the work, the associates review it hundreds of times, and the VPs just need to pretend to care, giving one off formatting comments from time to time and always suggesting to redo everything and look at things from another perspective the night before any meeting. This is the bank’s way of letting them save their marriages after six years of cancelled dinners and ruined vacations – this is their break.

There are two kinds of VPs you will encounter:

  1. The kind that will remember the torture and want to break the cycle.
  2. The kind that will use the torture he endured as a benchmark for how badly you can be treated.
And guess what? The first kind don't make it to VP in banking. Sucka.
