Alienation from friends and family

My friends now greet me with - "Hey What's up.. You should really quit your job.." – Simon, 2nd yr analyst

From the very beginning of this job, you get a distinct sense that there is something off about the environment.

For one, you can no longer identify with anyone other than your cubbie buddies.
Your significant other, your friends and your family start to irritate the heck out of you. You take it as a direct attack every time you hear the phrase 'what time are you coming home for dinner?'

The fact that you haven’t done anything but formatting for the last week means that you really have nothing interesting to talk about. At the time this book was written, a good banker friend of mine didn't even know who Obama was. Scary. Friends try to commiserate and offer support. But after six months of constantly hearing how much you hate your job lets face it, it gets old. Really old.

Since we cannot bring ourselves to change our jobs, we instead opt to avoid friends and family altogether, thereby removing all cognitive dissonance and restoring peace of mind.

‘You won’t have time for friends, family and clients, so make friends with your clients and hope your family is understanding’ – Actual quote, CEO of the Institution
